Why is it important?
You should choose your yahoo email password with care,
even if you do not have any important private conversations:

How to protect it?
So do not use just a few characters or even a simple word
as your password! A good recommendation
is to use at
least 10 characters, consisting of several upper
(A-Z) and
lower (a-z)
case letters, combined with
numbers (0-9).
What to avoid?
Including special characters (like: ,.;-!) in your passwords
would significantly improve security, but these types of
characters are not allowed in all kinds of passwords, so

a date of birth. These kind

passwords are bad, because they are quite easy to hack

How to remember?
Make sure to use
a "lost password question" or similar
mechanism to be able
to regain control in case you lose
your password.Change your password from time to time,
maybe once a year.
It's probably a good idea to write down your passwords,
including your yahoo email password. You can use a
piece
of paper or
almost
any kind of
file, for example a
simple
text file, an Excel- or OpenOffice-spreadsheet, or
even an
image file. Keep it at a safe place. You may
even want to disguise the passwords in your notes in
a simple way.

For example by adding a fixed number of
random
characters to your passwords at a certain position,
preferably the beginning or the end
. You may
choose
to
add
2 random characters to the beginning of the
passwords in your notes. So if your hotmail email

is "Jmx696mxR" and your yahoo

password
is
"GsKeBy3355" for
example write on
your
sheet:

Use a fixed number of different (random) characters at a
fixed
position
to attach
to every password.
Create a
backup copy of your password sheet, keep
one version
up-to-date and refresh your backup from
time to time.
Please remember to keep both versions
at a secure place.
What's the benefit?
These are important steps to keep your email address
secure
and thus to protect your identity. If you follow the guidelines
mentioned above you will have good protection from people
who want to gain access to your email account, whether it's
somebody you know or just some random person trying to
hack into random accounts to use them for whatever.
