The X Games are a multi-sport event with a focus on extreme sports. Competitors perform in many different categories and styles and have helped to make extreme sports more popular. The X Games, which air each year on ESPN, consist of two groups of games: the Winter X Games, which include snowboarding, freestyle skiing, and similar events held in January or February, and the Summer X Games, which include skateboarding, freestyle BMX, and other events, usually held in August.
The X Games were called the Extreme Games when they began, in 1995.
